Shared memory for people who use several agents: the options

If you use more than one agent, there are four kinds of option: the memory built into each app; a hosted memory several agents connect to, such as Hjarni, MemoryPlugin or Saudad; a developer memory engine, such as Mem0 or Supermemory; or a local server you run yourself, such as Basic Memory. Which fits depends on whether you want to just connect, to write notes, to build, or to run it yourself.

What we looked at

Saudad wrote this page, and Saudad is one of the options, so here is how we judged them, before the list: what each one is, who it suits, where your memory lives, and what it costs, each from the product’s own pages on the date beside its source. We don’t rank them; the right one depends on what you want to do.

The options

Each option in its maker’s words where we quote them, prices as their pages list them.

Which kind fits

Built-in memory, if…

  • You use one app, most of the time.
  • You want nothing to set up or pay for.

A hosted memory, if…

  • You use several agents, on more than one computer.
  • You want to connect them and get on with your work.

A developer engine, if…

  • You’re building memory into your own agent or app.
  • You want an API and SDKs, or to self-host the engine.

A local server, if…

  • You want everything on your own computer, as files you own.
  • Your agents run on that computer and can reach a local server.

Where Saudad fits

Saudad is a hosted memory for people, not a developer engine: you sign in with a code, paste one address into each agent, and your agents fill it as you work. It’s organised into spaces, such as one per client or project, and every memory shows its space and the app that saved it. It works with Claude, Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, OpenClaw and other apps, and ChatGPT on its Business, Enterprise and Edu plans (read-only on Pro).

It isn’t open source, it doesn’t run on your own computer, and it has no browser extension: if you need any of those, one of the others suits you better.

Questions

Why trust a list written by Saudad?

Don’t take it on trust: every fact about another product links that product’s own page, with the date we read it. We’ve put Saudad where it fits, with what it doesn’t do, and we don’t rank the options.

Is ChatGPT’s or Claude’s built-in memory enough?

If you use one of them most of the time, often yes. Each keeps its memory inside its own app, so it stops being enough once you use a second agent.

What does Saudad cost?

€9 a month billed yearly, or €12 monthly, VAT included, after a 14-day free trial with no card.
